The 69th annual Writers Guild Awards paid tribute to the late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.
He was honored with 2017 Jean Renoir Award for International Screenwriting Achievement.
Abbas Kiarostami, winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’, passed away on July 4, 2016.
He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.
The event took place simultaneous ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles on Sunday night.
The 69th WGA honored the best in film, television, radio and video-game writing of 2016.
